Taught courses

Most of the teaching is delivered by distance learning, which enables students to follow the Master’s courses independently of their place of residence and work commitments. The ICoN Master’s also involve short periods of lessons delivered on a face to face basis, with the physical presence of the teacher.

Studying for the online portion of the course is based on multimedial materials designed by university professors or professionals of the given sector, and takes place in virtual classrooms coordinated by specialists of the subject. The tutors provide guidance for the students in order to facilitate study of the source materials forming part of the programme; they also offer explanations, stimulating students to become aware of the coherent links among the study materials, and give suggestions that offer insight into modes of interpretation for a fuller understanding of the general subject-matter. In addition, the tutors propose periodic assessment and self-evaluation tests.

What are the university Master’s degrees?

A university Master’s degree (of first or second level) is a degree course that can be activated only by universities, and it is therefore totally distinct from any other non-university course that bear the name of “Master’s”. The University Master’s degree is a qualification that is recognised by law in Italy and in the European Union.

The first-level Master’s is open to students who have obtained a first-level (three-year) Italian degree or an equivalent (Italian or foreign) qualification or an Italian degree awarded according to the Italian university system that was previously in force.

The second-level Master’s is open to students who have obtained a second-level (magistral or specialistic) Italian degree or an equivalent (Italian or foreign) qualification or an Italian degree awarded according to the Italian university system that was previously in force.

Every ICoN Master’s has the value of 60 ECTS credits.

Validity of the qualifications

Credits acquired through a university Master’s are recognised by European universities, in accordance with the statutes of each self-governing university institution, and are valid for admission to second-level degrees or enrolment in any other post-degree educational qualification, on hte basis of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).

The Master’s diploma awarded by ICoN constitutes a valid qualification allowing diploma holders to submit an application to be granted 3 points in the ranking list for teaching posts in the Italian state school system.
